Street Photography, Framing the Social Landscape with Scott Globus at the Ferry Building
September 28 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm| Free - $35.00
This is a 2 part workshop. The first part is a free lecture from 10am-11:30am in the classroom at Samy’s Camera in San Franicsco. The second part is from 1pm-4pm at the Ferry Building*.
In this continuing series of talks on Street Photography, Scott Globus will present a curated collection of images from great masters of street photography, and contemporary street photographers, with the goal of stimulating creative exploration, appreciation and depiction of our social landscape.
During the classroom lecture, Scott will cover a mixture of the following topics:
- History, Philosophy & Ethics of Street Photography.
- Strategy, Process, Place and Choice of Subjects.
- Breaking down barriers and making connections on the street.
- Technical issues such as choice of camera & lens, zone focusing and exposure.
- Composition, Intentionality and Dynamic Framing.
- Discovering meaning inside the frame.
- Describing the world and honing your vision.
There will be a lunch break after the lecture and then Scott will lead a Photowalk from 1pm to 4pm. At 1pm we will meet at the main entrance of the SF Ferry Building at Market St. and the Embarcadero. The weekly farmer’s market goes until 2pm but the place stays busy for the rest of the afternoon. Plenty of colorful displays, tourists, locals, shoppers and farmers all mixing together, while the light streams in through the skylights, and joggers, cyclists and taxis careen past, on the Embarcadero! We will conclude around 4pm.
Special Opportunity! Scott will be joined by the West Coast Leica Representative, Ebi Kuehne. Ebi will have gear to loan, which will be distributed after Scott’s talk at Samy’s. While these workshops are open to all levels of photographers, who use any brand of camera, if you are a Leica photographer, or would like to explore and demo Leica cameras, this is a great opportunity for you!
San Francisco is a multicultural, creative city comprised of neighborhoods teeming with a diversity of people, colorful architecture, unique shops & restaurants and dramatic vistas. There are endless options to walk the City in search of great opportunities to photograph, but some of Scott’s favorites are the Ferry Building and SF’s Union Square and Market Street areas. These destinations are alive with activity—join us and see for yourself!
The classroom lecture is free. There is a $35 per person charge for the photowalk.
