Discover the charms of San Miguel de Allende, the colonial town with a rich culture and thriving culinary scene that Travel & Leisure voted 2017’s world’s best city. Samy’s Photo School brings you an incredible opportunity to capture and explore this beautiful, walkable city during Semana Santa, Holy Week, with award-winning photographer and educator, Natasha Calzatti.
Semana Santa in San Miguel de Allende is a banquet of processions, devotions, music–sights and sounds and smells–inspiring awe and joy. This workshop is designed to give the photographer all the tools needed to capture amazing environmental portrait images. During this workshop, Natasha will not only cover necessary techniques in street photography, photographing the local people and landscape, but she will also teach beginning to advanced post-processing techniques for the travel photographer. There will be sunset shooting sessions using HDR and panorama stich techniques as well as a time lapse night photography session. One-on-one learning sessions with Natasha will be available for anyone who wishes to have specific and personal attention.
Each day will include an opportunity to explore San Miguel’s traditional and elemental food flavors as your tour leaders treat you to thoughtfully selected culinary experiences which may include traditional favorites at El Tianguis market and dinner in a global-inspried rooftop restaurant with a view of the entire city below.
We will meet the weavers of Las Rancheritas and experience life in a rural village. During this intimate hands-on experience, we will have ample opportunity to capture intimate environmental portraits, we will be invited into the homes of the villagers to experience tortillas made by hand, cooked on a wood fired comal and decorated using an ancient process followed by a delicious traditional lunch.
A visit to the Chapel of Jimmy Ray, the extraordinary art gallery Anado McLauchlin, will also be included. This is an artist friendly gallery dedicated to the “road less travelled.”
