Alabama Hills is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada just west of Lone Pine. It is known for its stunning rock formations, rounded contours and natural arches which stand in stark contrast to the chiseled peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Mobius Arch, the largest and most picturesquely situated of the many natural arches in the Alabama Hills, almost perfectly frames Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous USA.
This weekend workshop will begin in the Alabama Hills where you will shoot what is sure to be an astoundingly beautiful sunset.
As darkness descends, Sony Ambassador Stan Moniz will teach you the proper techniques for capturing the Milky Way and night sky above. A variety of techniques will be taught and explained in an easy to understand manner for any photographer who is interested in the art form of astrophotography. The explanation of the 500 rule, light painting, star trails and nightscape portraits will be covered on this fun-filled night under the blanket of the night sky.
The next day, we will travel to Big Pine for a visit to an ancient forest. This surreal atmosphere is punctuated by twisted wood, the splendid remoteness and moonscape appearance of the area. You will shoot sunset in Big Pine and then have another astrophotography shooting session.
